It's good to have goals. One of the many that I have is to shoot for a major sports apparel brand. That's what you see here... kind of. The images below are commonly known as "spec ads" (speculative ads if you like syllables). These ads show potential clients your talent without you having to have a published piece.
For this shoot, my friend Jutta and I wanted to capture images that showcased the power and beauty of tennis while also fitting into the brand strength of Adidas. I wanted to show the quiet side of the sport by foregoing action shots and focusing on the calm before the storm.
Thanks to Jutta for being such a good sport (it was cold that night) and for providing her elegance to the shoot.
With great power comes great responsibility and the chance to capture some amazing images featuring Spider-Man (a.k.a. Grayson "The Professor" Boucher) and his acrobatic brand of basketball.
Based off his, extremely popular, YouTube videos "Spider-Man Plays Basketball", I approached Grayson with the idea of capturing a series of promotional images that could be used for tour dates and personal appearances. He was sold.
Throughout the shoot, we talked about everything from how he came up with the idea to the thought process of inventing a move. Being both a fan of basketball and the world of comics, it was a welcomed challenge combining the two, in a stylish way, and I look forward to that challenge again in the future.
